Bernard is a business lawyer (corporate and technology law) who regularly advises tech start-ups on matters such as founders’ rights, intellectual property, fund-raising, technology development, M&A, employment issues and other matters.
He started his career in the M&A department of a large Singapore law firm before joining a boutique law firm specialising in advising inventors, SMEs, technology start-ups, incubators, venture capital firms, and research institutes. Bernard was also the regional legal counsel for the world’s leading luxury goods group, and a lifestyle-focused private equity fund management company.
When advising businesses, he starts first by understanding the competitive or disruption strategy, business objectives and value proposition of the particular business, before he diagnoses and prescribes the legal risks and the solutions.
Bernard enjoys advising start-ups because he gets to meet the people who are changing the world (or at least try to), as he is inspired by their conviction, courage, energy, and persistence, and he is excited by the possibility that his knowledge and skills may be able to help them achieve their goals.
